Silver Surfer Vaporizer (SSV) FAQ | 7th Floor

Q. What are the two different 'Glass Types'?

There are one of 2 different glass type options that come standard with any Silver Surfer Vaporizer you purchase. The Standard Glass option or the Ground Glass (handsfree) option.

The standard glass heater cover and standard wand allow you to control your vaporization experience more by rotating the wand while vaporizing, this allows you to control your SSV and ensure herbs are evenly vaporized. This is the more popular option with users.

SSV Standard

The ground glass heater cover and ground glass wand will not allow you to rotate the wand, it fits firmly inside the heater cover with its ground glass connection. This is more convenient for some if you will always be using the device in the same area all the time, but you do have to be careful as this option does result in more accidental breaks!

SSV Ground Glass

What do we recommend?  The standard option is generally the more popular with users, and we believe is the best option. It allows you more control of your vaporization experience and when combined with the hands free attachment you get the benefit of both worlds.

Q. Do I need to grind?

Yes, it is very important to grind your herbs well for use with the Silver Surfer Vaporizer. Exposing more surface area to your herbs will enable more active ingredients to be released to the user, it also ensures that your herbs are evenly vaporized not wasting any herb in the process. (View our range of herbal grinders).

Q. What is the Silver Surfer Aroma Top Bowl?

The SSV Aroma Top allows the user to diffuse aromatic/frangrance oils into a room. It attaches to the Glass Heater Cover and facilitates the release of aromatic compounds. Perfect for keeping your home smelling nice throughout the day!

Q. Why does the SSV not have a digital readout?

The reason the SSV does not have a digital readout is because the temperature on a digital readout vaporizer is measured at the element or at the glass heater cover. The temperature of the air around the element is not the temperature passing through your herbal material.  The only place to get a true readout would be in the screened portion of the wand, which would mean that more electronics would have to be introduced. The SSV keeps it simple, which allows the product to be even more durable and maintain a longer lifespan. Remember the appliances from 20-30 years ago? They had less technical gadgets, but would last longer and work better and 7th Floor has adopted those traditional American principals. We agree it would be great to know the exact temperature of the air over herbal matter, but rest assured, this information is completely unnecessary. As long as you follow the directions in the SSV manual you will find the proper vaporizing temperature every time.

Q. How do I switch out SSV bases?

To replace the base make sure the SSV is turned off, unplugged, and cooled down. Turn the SSV upside down and remove the two screws in the base. Take the old base off and put the new one on, place the screws in the holes and screw the new base back down. You're done!

Q. How do I change the SSV knob?

To replace your knob first turn your SSV off. If you have an older version your knob may not be removable. If you look where the knob is attached and see blue plastic your knob will not come off. If it you see only metal you have a removable knob. Grasp the knob (it is easiest to grab with your thumb, pointer finger and middle finger) trying not to grab the dial, as it is the most fragile. Pull slightly while prying your fingers in between the housing and the knob, it should pop right off. To install the new knob correctly locate the largest raised glass bump on the base of the knob, this is your indicator.  With the SSV logo facing you, make sure the switch on the unit is turned all the way to the left, in the off position.  Place the knob with the raised bump in the 7 o’clock position and push to secure it in place.  Now your unit is fully assembled and ready for use.  Important: Do not put the knob on too tight. If you put it on too tight and you want to take it off again, it could pull the shaft out of the temperature controller.

Q. How do I replace the glass heater cover?

To replace the heater cover make sure your SSV is off, unplugged and is not hot. Now grasp the heater cover while gently twisting and pulling upwards. When the heater cover comes off the cap and spacers may come off with it. Pay close attention to where they came from. There is a cap, a large spacer and, sometimes, a small spacer. To put your new heater cover on, first make sure the cap is in place. Then, using needle-nose pliers, place large spacer over the heater stand and insert the small spacer between them. The large spacer will have a bent corner. This bent corner goes on top to hold the cap in place. Now gently pull up on the heating element to get it sitting up high in the SSV, if it stops do not keep pulling as you could damage the heater. Also when you pull on the heater you want to make sure that it is coming straight out the SSV. The heater must not touch the glass or it will crack the glass and this will not be covered by the warranty. Once you have your spacer on and the element in place, gently twist and push your heater cover down over them. You may or may not want to push it all the way down, this is up to you and where you would like your heat cover to be positioned. Now look through the opening at the top of the heater cover to make sure the element is not touching the glass. If it is you may have to readjust it and put your heater cover back on. Or you can carefully use a toothpick or something similar to straighten the element. Just make sure the heater is not touching the glass.

Q. How do I change the screen?

Changing the screen should be easy. That's just another benefit of the SSV! First remove your clogged screen by picking it out with you supplied pick. Now clean out any debris that may have accumulated, this assures a good screen fit. Now take your screen and shape it into a shallow bowl and insert it into the front of the wand as far down as you can with your finger. Now take your pick and push the screen down till it hits the hour glass shape. Now here is the trick; flip the screen so that the convex side is up. This allows the screen to catch under the edge. Then push down the screen to get it in its groove and push it down in the center to lock it in place. Your screen is now in!

Q. What voltage is your Silver Surfer Vaporizer?

Australian Vaporizers stock the 220V SSV with an Australian power plug. You can be assured that your SSV unit will work in Australia.
