How to Spot a Fake Mighty Vaporizer

Published 9 July 2020 · updated 18 June 2026

A fake Mighty can look spot-on in a photo and fall apart the second you hold it. The counterfeits have got better over the years, but they still get the small stuff wrong, and the small stuff is exactly where you catch them. Run through the checks below and you’ll know inside a minute whether you’ve got the real Storz & Bickel article or a knock-off.

This applies to the Mighty and the Mighty+. Same brand, same tells.

Start with the box and the paperwork

Genuine Storz & Bickel packaging is plain and tidy. Clean printing, sharp German and English text, a proper serial number on the label. Fakes tend to give themselves away here first: fuzzy logos, off colours, dodgy spelling, a flimsier box than you’d expect for the money.

Inside, a real one comes with the printed manual, the warranty card, the brush, spare screens, the dosing capsule and the filling aid. Counterfeits skimp. Missing accessories, a photocopied-looking manual, or no warranty paperwork at all are all bad signs.

Check the serial number

This is the big one. Every genuine Mighty has a serial laser-etched into the plastic near the chamber. It’s neat, it’s permanent, and it matches the number printed on the box.

Fakes get this wrong in a few ways. Sometimes there’s no serial at all. Sometimes it’s a cheap sticker instead of an etch. Sometimes the etch is there but it’s rough, or it doesn’t match the box. Storz & Bickel can verify a serial through their support, so if you’re buying second-hand and you’re not sure, that’s the call to make before money changes hands.

Feel the finish and the weight

A real Mighty has a slightly soft, rubberised feel to the casing and the cooling unit clicks on with a reassuring fit. The plastic feels dense. Pick up a genuine one and it has a bit of heft.

Counterfeits feel cheap. The casing’s often smooth or hard where it should be grippy, the seams don’t line up, and the cooling unit either rattles or jams. The two cooling-unit fins on a real one are evenly moulded and sit flush. Wonky fins, visible flashing on the plastic, or a mouthpiece that won’t twist on cleanly all point the wrong way.

Look at the charger and the port

Storz & Bickel ship the Mighty with their own marked charger. A real one is a quality unit with proper branding and the right plug for your region. A generic no-name brick, or a charger that doesn’t fit an Australian socket without an adaptor it shouldn’t need, is a flag.

The Mighty+ uses USB-C. The original Mighty charges through a dedicated barrel connector, not USB. If someone’s selling you an “original Mighty” with a USB-C port, something’s off.

Run it and watch the heat-up

A genuine Mighty heats fast and the display is crisp. The screen shows set and actual temperature clearly, the haptic buzz when it reaches temp is firm, and it’ll happily run up to 210°C. A normal session sits around 180-195°C, and the unit gets to temperature in well under a minute.

Fakes struggle here. Sluggish heating, a dim or laggy screen, temperatures that don’t hold, or a buzz that feels weak. If it won’t reach the temperature it claims, or the readout jumps around, you’re not holding the real thing.

What not to do

  • Don’t trust the listing photos. Counterfeit sellers lift real product shots all the time. Ask for actual photos of the unit you’re being sold, serial included.
  • Don’t ignore a too-good price. A Mighty well under the going rate isn’t a bargain, it’s a warning.
  • Don’t buy off a seller with no track record. No vape history, no reviews, a brand-new account, all worth a pause.
  • Don’t assume it’s fine because it powers on. Plenty of fakes switch on and still cook unevenly or die in months.

If you’ve already got one

Bought second-hand and now you’re worried? Go through the serial check first, then the finish and the charger. If it ticks the real boxes, give it a proper once-over and a clean before you put it to work, see how to clean your Mighty for that. If it doesn’t, stop using it and chase a refund.

A genuine Mighty is a serious vaporiser and it’s built to last years. That’s exactly why the fakes exist. Know the tells and you won’t get caught with a counterfeit vaporizer. For the genuine range and where each unit fits, our Storz & Bickel rundown has the lot.
