Counterfeit vaporizers are a growing problem within the industry, and it’s a sad truth that they exist for nearly all popular vaporizers. Recently, fakes have been emerging of the popular Mighty Vaporizer by Storz & Bickel.  A fake Mighty can be very convincing, but luckily there are a few ways to help identify whether or not your Mighty is authentic. If you have bought a Mighty vaporizer or are considering shopping around for a good deal, please be aware of what to look for so that you know you are getting the real thing.

Note: Fakes are evolving all the time to become more and more realistic. As such, information in this article may become outdated as manufacturers get better at making more convincing fakes. When consumers become aware of the differences between authentic and counterfeit units, counterfeiters will often react by finding ways to replicate the authentic design. Operation:

Ability to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius

The most reliable way to spot a fake Mighty vaporizer is whether or not you can change the temperature readout from Fahrenheit to Celsius. On an authentic Mighty, you can do this by holding both temperature buttons down to change the display. The most recent information we’ve found is that counterfeit Mighty’s do not have this ability.

Sound:

another good way to spot a fake Mighty vaporizer is the sound that it makes. An authentic Mighty should emit a low, grumbling vibration when you switch it on. Some fakes have been reported as having a high pitched whine or hum when switched on.

Design

Top Logo:

This can be an easy way to tell if a Mighty you want to purchase is authentic. An authentic Mighty has the word “Mighty” printed on top of the cooling unit in orange cursive font. The plastic immediately around this logo is textured and also has the Storz & Bickel logo printed in a light grey pattern. If the logo looks any different to this, then it is not authentic. NOTE: some counterfeit units now have exact replicas of this design, so it is best to look for other clues as well.

 

O-Ring and heat chamber plastic:

The authentic Mighty vape has a blue O-ring and opaque grey plastic around the edge of the heating chamber. Some fakes have been reported using a different-coloured O-ring and transparent plastic around the heating chamber. The heating chamber of some fakes is also of noticeably lower quality. If the colouring of the chamber is “off” and it looks cheap or badly made, there is a chance that it is not an authentic unit.

Serial number and grinder:

Serial number:

All authentic Mighty’s have a serial number printed on the box AND on the back of the unit. Though counterfeiters have recently started printing bogus serial numbers on the back of the unit, they may not include one on the outside of the box. Check that the vaporizer has a serial number printed clearly on the back of the unit and on the box that it came in, and also that these numbers match up.

Grinder:

Some fake Mighty vaporizers have been reported using different coloured grinders or authentic looking grinders with magnets in them. The Volcano grinder is orange and is NOT magnetic. It also has the Storz & Bickel logo 3D printed into the plastic inside the grinder and on the clear plastic lid, along with the Storz & Bickel website and the phrase “the world’s finest grinder” in capital letters.

Always shop with a retailer you trust

At the end of the day, the best way to avoid a cheaply made fake vaporiser is to shop with a reputable seller that has been in the industry for a while and knows what to look for. When it comes to vaporizing, cheap fakes are not the same as the real thing, and they may even be dangerous.
